Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas

Royal Caribbean, the cruise line that brought us ice rinks, rock-climbing walls, bowling and a surf park at sea, announces Oasis of the Seas with more to shock and amaze us.

On September 3, the general public will be able to make reservations on Royal Caribbean International’s giant, Oasis of the Seas – the one that weighs 220,000 tons and carries 5,400 passengers.

This ship is big news because of what’s on board in the “neighborhoods”, as Royal insists on calling the different areas of the vessel.

Central Park - literally a park the length of a football field and open to the elements - comes complete with grass, shrubs and seven restaurants no less.

The seaside Boardwalk boasts the world’s first carousel at sea, two rock-climbing walls, shops, casual diners, even a psychic and tattoo parlour.

Nine decks up, you can speed more than 82 feet along a zip-wire strung across the open-air atrium.

At the Rising Tide pub in the Royal Promenade - a 'street' that features on Royal’s other big ships - you’ll be able to order a drink on one deck and drink it on another. Yes, it’s the first moving bar at sea – moving, that is, because of clever engineering (it moves up and down between Central Park and the Royal Promenade) as opposed to rough seas.

For the action crowd, you’ll be able to surf or body-board one of two “FlowRiders” or bungee jump off of Deck 19.
